How did Hyundai-Kia Automotive group end up being so successful after starting from lemon cars?

In the late 1980's and early 1990's Hyundai/Kia cars were considered lemons and were very harshly criticized by many. However today, they offer all kinds of high quality cars with 100,000 miles warranty and have even gone into luxury division like genesis. How did they manage to do it?|||by making good cars , good prices to lure people and good warranty. I own one and never thought I would and trust me it is very nice. always owned GM and had so many problems I switched and am very happy. If only the american companies would take a tip from the others how much good they could do.|||Basically they realized that building shoddy cars even at rock bottom prices werent condusive to their long term survival. So they adopted the Japanese approach of the 70s-80s which was to build cheap but reliable cars. It also didnt hurt that they "borrowed" designs and technology from Honda %26amp; Toyota, for example previous Sonata looked very similar to the Accord and current one looks identical to the Camry. Kia Forte looks like a Honda Civic clone.

It wasnt easy to woo back the million that bought them in their first 2 years in the US and was a slow and gradual process. Now they are outselling many other brands and receiving multiple automotive awards. It also doesnt hurt that they have the best warranty in the industry.

The only thing Hyundai has yet to overcome is resale value. They're still terrible which is a major reason why I probably wont buy one anytime soon.
